The settlement then accounts for applicable additions and deductions. If you retain salvage, that does not turn the same loss automatically into a separate diminished-value recovery.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"module\" id=\"diminished-value-considers-the-repaired-vehicle\">\n<h2>Diminished value considers the repaired vehicle<\/h2>\n<p>A vehicle may have a lower resale value after damage and repair, even if the repair is competent. Whether that difference is recoverable depends on the jurisdiction, claim type, policy and evidence. Repair-quality problems are also distinct from the stigma of an accurately disclosed collision history.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"module\" id=\"gather-a-different-evidence-file\">\n<h2>Gather a different evidence file<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Final repair estimate and supplements.<\/li>\n<li>Repair invoices and photographs.<\/li>\n<li>Prior damage and vehicle-history information.<\/li>\n<li>Mileage, equipment, pre-loss condition and market evidence.<\/li>\n<li>Any independent inspection of suspected repair problems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"module\" id=\"avoid-double-counting\">\n<h2>Avoid double counting<\/h2>\n<p>Keep repair costs, remaining repair defects and claimed market loss separate. A percentage taken from a generic calculator does not explain the market response to your particular vehicle. An appraiser should describe the method, evidence and limitations.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"module\" id=\"ask-the-right-scope-question\">\n<h2>Ask the right scope question<\/h2>\n<p>Tell the provider whether the vehicle is being repaired, already repaired or declared a total loss. Ask whether the requested service assesses pre-loss value, post-repair market loss or repair quality.
