Appraisal clause
A policy provision that can provide a process for resolving a disagreement over value or amount of loss. Its availability and procedure come from the actual policy and governing law.
Why the term matters
Obtain the full clause, including appraiser selection, umpire procedure and costs. A claim against another driver does not generally give you the contractual rights in that driver’s policy.
A question to ask
“Where does this term appear in my report or policy, and how does it affect this specific calculation or next step?” Ask for a written explanation tied to the document.
