A total-loss decision and a disagreement about pre-loss value are related, but they are not the same question.
Repair cost, likely additional damage, salvage value, vehicle value and applicable rules can affect the decision. A vehicle can be a total loss without being destroyed. Do not assume that a single percentage found online governs every insurer, state or vehicle. Ask for the estimate, supplements and written explanation used in your claim.
A threshold for a title brand may serve a different purpose from the insurer’s economic repair decision. A state-specific rule should be checked with the regulator or motor vehicle agency. A calculator using repair cost divided by value cannot decide coverage or establish whether a vehicle may legally be registered.
Confirm storage and rental deadlines while you investigate. Request the vehicle-release process and preserve photographs and belongings before a move. A shop saying it will bill the insurer does not establish that every fee is covered. Get a written explanation of any amount you might owe.
If the description or comparable evidence is wrong, request a correction to value. If you want to keep the vehicle, investigate title, repair, insurance and lender restrictions before agreeing. If the problem is coverage or liability, a valuation report alone will not resolve it.
