Appraiser qualifications and credentials

Verify the individual doing the work, the credential issuer and the requirements of the assignment.

Oregon credential terminology

Oregon DMV publishes a Vehicle Appraiser Certificate program. Ask for the exact credential name and issuer rather than treating “licensed,” “certified” and “experienced” as interchangeable. Verify that the credential and the appraiser’s qualifications fit the task and policy requirements.

What to request before engagement

  • The name of the appraiser appointed to your assignment.
  • Applicable credential details and a verification route.
  • Relevant vehicle and appraisal-clause experience.
  • Who reviews and signs the report.
  • Conflict disclosures and the written scope.

Our review approach

Total Loss Network uses experienced human appraisers to oversee research and valuation. Experience statements are not a substitute for verifying a credential. We do not publish an unidentified certificate number or imply that one state credential authorizes every service nationwide.
